School closures and delays were announced before Hurricane Helene

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – Hurricane Helene is expected to make landfall in South Georgia sometime between Thursday evening and Friday morning.

In anticipation of the storms, some schools in South Georgia have announced closures and class cancellations.

Below is a list of schools that have closed or postponed classes:

• Albany Technical College will be closed on Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th.
• Atkinson County schools will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Baconton Community Charter School will be closed on Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th.
• Baker County Schools will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Ben Hill County schools will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Berrien County schools will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Brooks County Schools will close early at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 26. Schools and offices will be closed on Friday, September 27.
• Calhoun County schools will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Clinch County Schools will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Schools in Colquitt County will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Community Christian Academy will be closed on Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th.
• Schools in Coffee County will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Schools in Cook County will be closed on Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Crisp Academy will close early at 12:00pm on Thursday, September 26th and will be closed on Friday, September 27th.
• Crisp County schools will close early on Thursday, September 26 (varies by school) and will be closed on Friday, September 27.

  • CCMS and CCHS – 12:30
• Crossroads Baptist School will be closed on Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th.
• Schools in Decatur County will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Deerfield-Windsor will have an early dismissal at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 26 and will be closed on Friday, September 27.
• Schools in Dooly County will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Schools in Dougherty County will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Early County Schools will be closed on Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th.
• Echols County schools will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Georgia Christian will be closed on Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th.
• Grace Christian Academy will be closed on Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th.
• Schools in Grady County will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Schools in Irwin County will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.

• South Georgia Technical College will be closed on Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th.
• Southwest Georgia Academy will be closed on Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th.
• Spring Creek Charter School will be closed on Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th.
• St. Teresa's School will be closed on Thursday 26 September and Friday 27 September.
• Schools in Stewart County will be closed on Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th.
• The Terrell County Charter School System has announced that schools will be closed on Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th.
• Thomas University will hold all courses online and cancel all in-person classes from Wednesday, September 26, through Friday, September 27.
• Thomas County Schools will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Thomasville City Schools will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Schools in Tift County will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Tiftarea Academy will be held virtually on Thursday, September 26th and closed on Friday, September 27th.
• Schools in Turner County will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• The University of Georgia's Tifton campus will be closed on Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Valdosta City Schools will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Valdosta State University will be closed on Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
• Westwood Schools will be closed on Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th.
• Wilcox County Schools will close early at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26th and remain closed on Friday, September 27th.
• Wiregrass Georgia Technical College will be closed on Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th.
• Schools in Worth County will be closed Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27.
