Sean Payton and Bo Nix joke about heated exchanges during Denver's 34-18 win

During the third quarter of Denver's eventual 34-18 victory over Las Vegas, the Fox broadcast observed head coach Sean Payton and quarterback Bo Nix engaging in a heated exchange on the sidelines.

This happened in the third quarter after a Nix pass from receiver Troy Franklin went uncatched.

When asked about it, Nix initially joked, “He turned around, looked at me and said, 'I love you,' and I turned to him and said, 'I love you too'.”

In reality, the discussion seems to stem from Nix's reversal of the piece, which remained unfinished for Franklin.

“It was a one-on-one game,” Nix said. “We turned it around. He wanted to make it to the border and we were just a bit confused in the crowd. So I tried to do everything right. In the end we had it, had a chance and I ruined it, but that's part of the game sometimes. In the huddle operation, sometimes you just have to get the best out of guys, as is the case when the game clock is running. You just make the best of it and luckily it didn’t bite us.”

Payton also joked when first asked about the exchange, referencing a 1986 classic.

“It’s part of the deal,” Payton said. “There’s still a little bit of Ferris Bueller in this player that we need to get rid of. I'm talking about Bo. I love him more than anything and sometimes it’s my love language.”

And what does he mean by Ferris Bueller?

“It's just funny. “Ferris is kind of quirky and does his own thing every now and then,” Payton said. “Sometimes you send something in and I don’t want it turned around. It's turned around, but everything is fine. He works his tail off. I am like that. It just is what it is.”

Even though Nix was born 14 years after this film was released, he said he saw it.

“I think it’s funny,” Nix said. “I think that literally explains the situation. We're just out there with great competitive intensity and fire. We can have these conversations and go right ahead and score a few more touchdowns. It doesn’t bother us.”

Nix finished Sunday's game 19 of 27 for 206 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 9 yards for a touchdown.
