Shohei Ohtani wins one of two Players Choice Awards 2024

Shohei Ohtani has been named the National League's outstanding player in the next of what is expected to be several awards in recognition of an impressive season with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Francisco Lindor of the New York Mets and fellow DH Marcell Ozuna of the Braves were also finalists for the 2024 NL Outstanding Player.

Ohtani was previously named the 2024 MLB Player of the Year by Sporting News. He was a finalist for Players Choice Awards Player of the Year, but that went to Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees.

Ohtani and Mookie Betts were finalists for the 2023 Player of the Year award, which was won by Ronald Acuña Jr. of the Atlanta Braves. Ohtani won the American League Outstanding Player Award last year.

The Players Choice Awards have been honoring outstanding achievements on and off the field every year since 1992. Finalists and winners are selected by a vote of active Major League players.

The Players Choice Awards select one winner each for Player of the Year, Marvin Miller Man of the Year, Curt Flood Award and Philanthropist of the Year.

The NL and AL winners are selected for the Outstanding Player Award, Outstanding Pitcher Award, Outstanding Rookie Award and Comeback Player.

Shohei Ohtani: 2024 NL Outstanding Player

Ohtani hit .310/.390/.646 with 38 doubles, seven triples, 54 home runs, 134 runs scored, 130 RBI, 59 stolen bases and a 181 wRC+ as the Dodgers' designated hitter this season.

Among other milestones, in April Ohtani surpassed Hideki Matsui for the most home runs ever hit by a Japanese player in the majors with his 176th career long ball. Ohtani also set a Dodgers franchise record for most home runs in a single season.

Of course, his greatest achievement was becoming the first player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a season.

Ohtani led the NL in runs, home runs, RBI, slugging percentage, on-base plus slugging (1.036) and total bases (411).
