Sleater-Kinney release thoughtful new single “This Time”

Sleater-Kinney have released an emotional new track called “This Time.” Check it out below.

Released today (October 4), the track is the latest installment of Little Rope Deluxe – an expanded version of their 11th studio album, which they first released in January.

The expanded version of the album is scheduled for release on November 1st via Loma Vista and includes the previously released, stripped-back “Frayed Rope Sessions” as well as special live versions of the tracklist recorded at the Forum in Melbourne.

It also features three brand new songs that the duo recorded during the original Little Rope album sessions. “This Time” is the sequel to the first new track released: “Here Today.”

The new song “This Time” begins with a steady drum beat as the thoughtful lyrics gain momentum. “If you keep answering I'll keep calling / Won't you let it ring and make me forget / I'm right, this time I know I'm right / It must be me,“ they sing in the opening verse.

“'This Time' was the last song we wrote for the album and the last one to be cut after we decided we preferred the consistency and conciseness of ten songs,” the band explained in a new statement .

“'This Time' is about a person pushing the limits of denial and sits on the thematic fringes of Little Rope, an album that wrestles with loss and its consequences.”

The last of the three new songs on the extended version of “Little Rope” is called “Nothing To Lose”. At the time of writing, no further details have been revealed about whether the song will be released before the album's release date.

In a four-star review of the original album NME wrote: “'Little Rope' is liberating in new ways for a band that has always raised its voice when called upon. It encourages the listener to feel the strength to face the uncomfortable feelings and encourages them to absorb every emotion on the journey. It is a shining glimmer of hope in a room full of sadness and another string in her ever-widening bow.”

After a large number of live shows this year celebrating the release of their 11th album, Sleater-Kinney are nearing the end of their scheduled dates. Next up are spots at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in San Francisco tonight (October 4th), a spot at Washington's Capitol Theater tomorrow (5th) and McMenamis Elks Temple the day after (6).
