South Star attendees talk about the excitement and expectations of the festival

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – The first day of the South Star Music Festival is approaching at John Hunt Park.

It was a wet day, but that made the experience even more memorable for some participants.

“Many (people) were afraid of the rain. They're not real music heads. Rain or shine, baby. Rain or shine we will be here,” said one fan.

Leading up to the festival, several other fans told me that they hoped the festival would be a huge success and that it would become an annual event.

Others hope that the execution is correct.

“Hopefully I’m happy with how everything worked out. Given the circumstances, it was the first time. Given the weather and the fact that this is our first time in Huntsville, we’re hoping for great things,” said another fan.

With first day headliners like TLC, Shinedown and Gwen Stefani and second day headliners like Beck, Blink-182 and Sublime, I asked attendees how they would feel after the festival was over.

“Oh man, euphoria. Yes, hopefully. Also nostalgia, I guess. Half of these bands would have made me kill myself when I was a little younger, so I'm excited,” said a middle-aged fan.

If you missed the great Saturday, tickets for the second day are still available on Sunday.

The first act takes the stage at 1:30 p.m
