#SoWizards Podcast: Washington Wizards 2024-25 Season Preview with Troy Haliburton

The Washington Wizards' season begins tonight by hosting the defending champion Boston Celtics, who just set a league record with 29 made three-pointers en route to a victory over the New York Knicks.

In this episode of the #SoWizards podcast, I join Troy Haliburton to discuss all things Wizards – from the season opener to player development to the team's long-term competitive strategy.

Our conversation included:

  • Last season's performance
  • The change of coach and the focus on teaching and development
  • Squad changes – who has left and the new arrivals
  • Jordan Poole's role and realistic expectations for him this season
  • Corey Kispert's new contract and NBA future
  • Over/under predictions for the team's rotation based on my preseason PPA projection
  • What to expect from the newbies and
  • Final predictions.

Along the way, we discovered clear statistical evidence that Troy is more optimistic than I am (he took six of the eleven players we discussed while I took only three).

Interestingly, while we noted that last year's team was the worst in franchise history and this year's team is likely even worse, we are both more optimistic about the team's direction than we have been in years. Because defeat is part of a long-term strategic plan to build a future winner.

They may not be able to build that winner, but they have chosen a direction, and it's not on the treadmill of mediocrity they've been on for so long.
