Spencer Rattler will make his first NFL start with the Saints following Derek Carr's injury

New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler was once the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the country coming out of high school and had high expectations for most of his football career. Rattler was once considered a possible first-round pick before slowing down a bit in his college career and going in the fifth round to the Saints, where he now gets his first starting opportunity due to an oblique injury to regular starter Derek Carr.

While Carr has enjoyed something of a resurgence this season, the long-term tenure of the quarterback position in New Orleans remains largely a mystery, giving Rattler a tremendous opportunity to make the most of it and potentially move forward as a solidified starter. There's no way Rattler would give the job to Carr, but given his tremendous physical talent and skill ceiling, there's a chance Rattler could show just enough to leave Saints fans and the coaching staff wanting more.

Given the nature of Carr's injury, Rattler will likely be the quarterback moving forward over the next few weeks. Rattler has already impressed in training camp and preseason and should be able to keep New Orleans' offense going without their usual starter.
