As he prepared for his sophomore season, Wembanyama said in an interview with Sports Illustrated on Tuesday that there were some players who didn't live up to his expectations when asked about the surprising parts of his rookie year.

“I think, for better or worse, it’s about how truly the best in the game are,” he told the outlet. “Like in a positive way, some of them are really impressive and inspiring in the way they approach the game every night. But there are others I used to like, and now I'm just like, 'No.' I'm not sure they deserve you to know… They don't seem to put in as much work as I thought.”

He said he hopes to inspire other young players in the league or those who will make it in the league, just as Kevin Durant and Rudy Gobert inspired him.

San Antonio is hoping Wembanyama and the offseason additions will help the team take a big step.

The team selected Stephon Castle with the No. 4 overall pick and signed Chris Paul.
