Steve Stone returns to the White Sox broadcast booth on a multi-year deal

The White Sox announced a multi-year deal with veteran broadcaster Steve Stone on Thursday.

Stone, 77, is entering his 18th season as a Sox broadcaster. and will work fewer games.

“I wanted to sign a long-term contract that would ensure I spend the rest of my career with the Chicago White Sox,” Stone said. “I have spent almost all of my time in baseball in Chicago, first as a player and now as a broadcaster. Throughout this time, I have considered the White Sox my family and I just want to spend my days with the people I consider my family.”

“Steve is considered one of the best in the business and we are so fortunate to have the White Sox as his home,” said Brooks Boyer, White Sox chief revenue and marketing officer. “His expertise and presence at the booth add depth and knowledge to every shipment. Steve is beloved by White Sox fans and we look forward to many more seasons of the legendary Steve Stone on the White Sox broadcast.”

Stone, a former Cy Young Award winner as a pitcher, is in his 42nd year as a broadcaster and was a finalist for the 2023 Ford Frick Award.

Stone told the Sun-Times in August that he hoped to continue the show beyond next season.

“I feel like I can still do it at a high level,” he said. “I want to do this for a while. I would like this team to get a little better. Lack of performance is hard to deal with in a performance-driven industry, but we have wonderful people to deal with. From the time I arrived here it felt like family. You can’t manufacture that.”

Stone will continue to work alongside Sox play-by-play announcer John Schriffen on the Chicago Sports Network (CHSN), the new television home of the Blackhawks, Bulls and White Sox, beginning October 1.
