Sunday is the first day of fall. Will the weather in Dallas-Fort Worth get cooler?

The heat wave that has brought above-average temperatures to Dallas-Fort Worth in recent days is forecast to finally end on Sunday evening.

Temperatures will still be in the 90s on Sunday, the first day of fall, but a cold front moving into North Texas later in the day will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. Rain will likely continue overnight into Monday.

The weak cold front will ensure that temperatures return to seasonal levels. In Dallas-Fort Worth, highs will be just over 27 degrees from Monday to Saturday, with lows around 18 degrees.

Another round of rain showers and thunderstorms will move from west to east across North Texas late Tuesday night into Wednesday, but after that it will remain dry through the weekend, according to the weather service.
