Swing state polls show a dead heat in the electoral map battleground

With less than two weeks until Election Day on Nov. 5, new polls show the presidential race remains close in many states that likely matter most.

The major party candidates, Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump, are making their final arguments to voters in a series of events across the country. They focus on key swing states that switched parties from 2016 to 2020, including Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Georgia. The candidates' campaigns are also eyeing Nevada and North Carolina, which are considered battlegrounds this year.

Because the U.S. presidential race is determined by the Electoral College rather than the popular vote, razor-thin votes in these states could decide the outcome of this year's election. As November 5 approaches, here's a look at the recent presidential elections in five key states:

Pennsylvania

In a new Franklin & Marshall College poll released Thursday, Trump leads Harris by one percentage point. The poll of 794 registered Pennsylvania voters showed Trump with 50% ahead of Harris with 49%, within the poll's sampling error of +/- 4.3 percentage points.

In a new Emerson College poll released Thursday, Trump also leads Harris by one percentage point. The poll of 860 likely voters in Pennsylvania showed Trump with 49% ahead of Harris with 48% in the Keystone State. The poll showed Trump ahead within the margin of error of +/- 3.3 percentage points.

Wisconsin

In a separate Emerson College poll, also released Thursday, Trump leads Harris by one percentage point. The poll of 800 likely voters in Wisconsin showed Trump leading at 49%, ahead of Harris at 48%, within his margin of error of +/- 3.4 percentage points.

North Carolina

In a third Emerson College poll released Thursday, Trump leads Harris by two percentage points. The poll of 950 likely voters in North Carolina showed Trump with 50% ahead of Harris with 48%, also within his margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points.

Another survey tells the same story. In a Marist College poll released Thursday, Trump leads Harris by two percentage points. The poll of 1,226 likely voters in North Carolina showed Trump leading at 50%, ahead of Harris at 48%. The poll showed Trump with a lead within the margin of error of +/- 3.6 percentage points.

Arizona

In a separate Marist College poll released Thursday, Trump leads Harris by one percentage point. The poll of 1,193 likely voters in Arizona showed Trump with 50% ahead of Harris with 49%, within his margin of error of +/- 3.7 percentage points.

Georgia

Trump and Harris are neck and neck in a third Marist College poll released Thursday. The poll of 1,193 likely Georgia voters found the two candidates tied 49% to 49%. The results are within the survey's margin of error of +/- 3.9 percentage points.
