Ten Hag's 'time is up' at Man Utd as 'ever approaching' Xavi demands two new signings

The Erik ten Hag era at Man Utd is “all but over” after the Red Devils’ controversial 2-1 defeat to West Ham on Sunday, according to former midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker.

The Red Devils have won just three of their first nine Premier League games and are currently 14th in the Premier League table with 11 points.

Man Utd were unlucky to concede a late penalty 1-2 defeat against West Ham on Sunday Referee David Coote took a long time to award a penalty after a foul by Matthijs de Ligt on Danny Ings.

To the dismay of Ten Hag and his Man Utd players, the penalty was awarded, putting even more pressure on the Dutchman, who appeared to be on the verge of being substituted in the summer.

And former West Ham midfielder Reo-Coker believes the result against the Hammers means “time is up” for Ten Hag at Man Utd.

Reo-Coker said on Football Daily Podcast: “I think time is up (for Erik ten Hag). I think at the moment they're just waiting to see what the best option is and what the best next step is for Manchester United.

“One of the things you need to think about is whether you're going to bring in a manager just to pick up the slack, or whether you're going to find the right manager now to do the really long-term planning and development and try to compete. “So where you want to be and where you want the club to compete is the big decision.

“I think the Erik ten Hag era is almost over for me. I think the big decision that needs to be made now is who is next and who fits the goals and the dream and the ambitions of this club.”

Former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson added: “I would be happy for a pound if Erik ten Hag used the word 'trial'.” I was in Istanbul last week and watched them (against Fenerbahce) , and they put in a decent performance, but a team like Manchester United can't be in 14th place in the Premier League after winning just three games at the start of the season.

“He seems to be very resilient, he seems to be very resilient to any criticism from outside. He'll do it his way, but they are where they are. For a team that has spent more than £600m this is unacceptable. The manager was given players he wanted and taken away from all the excuses he needed.

“He has been supported, he has got a new contract and he has all the players he wants. Results and performances on the pitch will determine his future. For Manchester United, a defeat was devastating.”

Former Barcelona coach Xavi has been heavily linked in the last week with a possible move to Old Trafford if Man Utd decide to replace Ten Hag.

And now reports in Spain are reinforcing that rumor with claims that Xavi has demanded two Man Utd players to take the job.

Xavi is moving “ever closer” to replacing Ten Hag as the former Spain international is “seriously considering the option” of managing the Premier League side.

And the Barcelona legend has “put on the table two names of Barcelona players that he considers essential to his project: Fermin Lopez and Andreas Christensen”.
