Halloween is just around the corner, but all smart shoppers know that it's actually the start of the holiday sales and gift-giving season. Amazon's highly anticipated October Prime Day begins tomorrow, and with it Walmart's competing Holiday Deals promotion, which runs until October 13th. However, if you're looking to get a head start on savings, Walmart has gifted us with early deals on items ranging from small phone accessories to expensive tech gadgets like Samsung TVs and MacBooks.

The main offers will go live for Walmart Plus subscribers at 12pm ET on October 8th, before rolling out to everyone else at midnight on Wednesday morning. That means there is still time before all the main sales begin. But we've put together the best early bird offers yet. When does the Walmart's Holiday Deals event sale take place?

Walmart's Holiday Deals event begins on Oct. 8, with big savings until October 13th. Walmart Plus members will get first access to the deals, with a 12-hour exclusivity window beginning October 8th at 12pm ET for subscribers. The general public will be able to access additional offers on October 9th starting at 12:00 pm ET (or 6:00 am in brick-and-mortar stores).

What will be on sale during the Walmart holiday sale?

Once the sale officially starts, you can expect discounts of up to 30% on technology, kitchen, power plants and selected clothing. Additionally, many toys are 40% off, candles are 50% off, floor care and beauty care is 60% off, and luggage is a whopping 70% off.

Do I have to be a Walmart Plus member to shop Walmart's holiday deals?

No, you don't have to be a Walmart Plus member to shop Walmart's holiday sales. Paying subscribers will get first access to the sale, with 12 hours of members-only shopping on October 8th. If you see an offer you really want, it may be worth signing up to make sure you can snag it before the crowd.

Should I buy Walmart Holiday Deals or Amazon Prime Day?

Since the two events start on the same day, you may be wondering where the best place to spend your money is. The first consideration should be whether you have a Walmart Plus or Amazon Prime subscription, as this will require access to some of the offers for a period of time.

As part of the event, Walmart confirmed that discounts will include 30% on tech, kitchen, power stations and select apparel, as well as up to 40% on toys, up to 50% on candles, up to 60% on floor care and beauty and up to 70% discount on luggage. If these categories appeal to you, it's worth at least browsing Walmart sales to find some bargains.

Walmart's sale will continue for a while after Amazon's Prime Day in October ends (on October 9th), so you can use Walmart's sale as a backup in case you miss something during Amazon's sale.
