The Dolphins start Tyler Huntley at QB in the MNF against the Titans

MIAMI – Tyler Huntley will start at quarterback for the Miami Dolphins against the Tennessee Titans on Monday, coach Mike McDaniel announced Saturday.

McDaniel said the team chose “Snoop” Huntley this week after Skylar Thompson was sidelined with a rib injury in last week's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Thompson could be available as an emergency quarterback during Monday night's game, but McDaniel said Tim Boyle will serve as Huntley's primary backup.

“I think one thing that has been abundantly clear to the team since he arrived, and even more so this week of practice, is that Snoop has started several big games,” McDaniel said. “As a quarterback, you just have to understand what it takes to win over teammates, to take someone else's spot and to bring your own personality, your own skills, your own characteristics to the offense and lead people.”

“We were very impressed with Snoop. … His maturation has been accelerated by him and he has done an excellent job integrating himself into the locker room.”

The Dolphins released Huntley from the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad last week after Tua Tagovailoa was placed on the injured list with a concussion.

The former Pro Bowler grew up in South Florida and relished the opportunity to start for his hometown team – even if it meant learning a complex offense quickly.

“It's like riding a bike – the first time you're a little unsure, you didn't know how to pedal,” Huntley said. “Then you just start putting it all together, pedaling, going straight, and after a while you start to stand up.”

Huntley has started nine games in four seasons, all for the Ravens. He has thrown for 1,957 yards and eight touchdowns against seven interceptions, adding 503 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2022 after starting four games in place of Lamar Jackson and helping lead the Ravens to the playoffs.

Huntley's teammates said his ability to extend plays with his legs adds a special element to what has been a difficult offense over three games – and they are confident he can learn the system.

“I love Snoop,” wide receiver Tyreek Hill said Thursday. “I had the opportunity to hang out with him at the Pro Bowl. Great guy, tremendous work ethic. He's really calm. I've seen it; I've seen film of him since he's been here, I'm like, 'This guy can make any throw.' He's a special talent – we've got a lot of things that go into this offense.

“We put in motions, we already put the play out, so he did a good job staying in the film room and learning all that.”

The Dolphins are also without starting left tackle Terron Armstead and cornerback Kendall Fuller, both of whom are in the concussion protocol. Running back Raheem Mostert is considered likely to play on Monday, while linebacker David Long will likely be a game-time decision.
