The great leader: As Ratan Tata during the terrorist attack in Mumbai on November 26th. stood in front of the Taj Hotel for three days

Tributes poured in from every arena following the death of industrialist and Tata Group Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata at the age of 86 at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. The Padma Vibhushan recipient, who led the Tata Group for over two decades, was in the intensive care unit since Monday.
But this is the story of the dark times when this national icon died during the devastating 11/26 terrorist attack. stood steadfast.
In November 2008, there was a devastating terrorist attack in Mumbai by the Pakistani group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Ten terrorists entered the city by sea and attacked several prime locations, including the famous one Taj Hotel and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. The attack killed 166 people, including 33 at the Taj Hotel, and injured more than 300 people.
During the attack, Ratan Tata, then 70, showed remarkable courage and leadership. He was seen standing at the Colaba end of the Taj Hotel while security forces were conducting operations against the terrorists inside. Tata then promised to reopen the hotel and support the families of those killed or injured in the attack.
In a later conversation with National Geographic, Tata recalled: “Someone called me and said that the Taj had been shot at. I called the Taj operator and there was no answer, which was very strange. So I got in my car and came here, and the guard stopped me from going to the lobby because there were about 300 guests in the hotel at that time. Without a master plan for evacuation, they moved people to the chambers, but many of them were killed.
“During this entire time, he was out here on the sidewalk supporting the prosecution and management of the Taj,” one staff member recalled.
Later in 2020, Tata wrote in an Instagram post while recalling the incident: “The wanton destruction that took place 12 years ago today will never be forgotten. But what is more memorable is the way Mumbai came together as a diverse people and united.” Putting aside all differences to defeat terrorism and destruction on that day, today we can certainly mourn those we lost , and honor the sacrifice of the brave who helped defeat the enemy, but what we must applaud is the unity and acts of kindness and sensitivity that we should appreciate and that will hopefully continue to shine in the years to come.” ,
The Tata Group set up the Taj Public Service Welfare Trust (TPSWT) to provide humanitarian assistance during disasters and Ratan Tata personally visited the homes of victims to ensure their welfare. According to the BBC, he paid the relatives of those killed the wages they would have earned for the rest of their lives, demonstrating his compassion and commitment to the affected families.
