The new Bruin defends his teammate and takes on him for the first fight. avalanche

Nikita Zadorov gave the Boston Bruins a whole new look on the blue line at the start of the season after signing a six-year contract in free agency this summer.

He scored two points in Boston's 2-2 start to the season and took advantage of the opportunity to win Wednesday night's game against the Colorado Avalanche behind his teammates.

Bruins center Matthew Poitras suffered a high hit in the second period at Ball Arena, causing Zadorov to drop the gloves on Avalanche center Matt Stienburg, who was making his NHL debut.

Zadorov took a few hits from the rookie before the Bruins defenseman brought Stienburg onto the ice.

Boston had all the early momentum with a 4-2 lead through two periods, including two goals in just 13 seconds by David Pastrnak and Hampus Lindholm after several good chances in the 40th minute. The Bruins showed off their offense early, while the Avalanche struggled in their own zone after a winless start to the 2024-25 season.

The Bruins set the pace early, hoping to set the tone for the three-game road trip against the Avalanche, Utah Hockey Club and Nashville Predators.
