The Outer Banks cast can't stay out of trouble, even in Season 4

The Pogues returned to the Outer Banks for season four, and some of the stars were shocked at how quickly they found themselves in trouble again.

“I was crazy,” Madelyn Cline told TheWrap. “I thought we had matured a little bit. There was this 18-month time jump, and I was kind of hoping that our frontal lobes would develop a little bit in that period of time, but no.”

“Every two episodes there is a big action scene. It’s crazy how big they get in the middle of the season,” Jonathan Daviss added. “We have a huge finale this year, but I think they’ve done a pretty good job of spreading out those big moments this year too.”

At the beginning of the season, the Pogues use their gold to build their own world: Poguelandia. But the happiness of the simple life only lasts until the next treasure hunt awaits.

For Madison Bailey and Cline, the montage scenes in the first episode were reminiscent of the first season. In fact, Bailey told TheWrap that this may have been one of her favorite parts of the season. Meanwhile, Cline was excited to bring the friendship element back to the forefront, something she said she's “still in love with” and something she said attracted a lot of people to the show in 2020.

Four years later, the young stars said returning for season four was still a “natural fit” for them.

“Last year we were seniors, this year we are seniors and we have all the energy that comes with that,” Bailey said. “Senioritis,” Cline added with a laugh.

“We've been doing this for five years now and we've seen each other work so hard and embody these characters so well that we just go in knowing the work will be done well,” the “Glass Onion” actress noted .

But the cast agreed that this year is bigger and better than ever.

“There are so many surprises this season – a lot of people read the scripts and say, 'This is crazy that we're going there,' or 'How are we going to shoot this?'” Bailey explained.

When Rudy Pankow and Gary Weeks first read the cliffhanger at the end of Part 1, Pankow said they couldn't have predicted the twist. He also said that their genuine shock contributed to the discovery between the father-son duo at the end of Episode 5.

Elsewhere, Daviss and Carlacia Grant revealed that the season finale may have been the show's biggest undertaking yet, and Daviss described it in one word: “Sandy.”

The first five episodes of Outer Banks season 4 are now available to stream on Netflix. Part 2 will be released on November 7th.
