The Patriots shock the reeling Jets with a late touchdown and beat their AFC East rivals

The New York Jets may be on the verge of rock bottom as the New England Patriots surprised them with a 25-22 victory thanks to a last-second touchdown drive led by Jacoby Brissett.

The Jets have now lost five games in a row and are now 2-6, while the Patriots hold the same record.

Aaron Rodgers led off a touchdown in the fourth quarter, capped by a two-yard rushing score from Braelon Allen, giving the Jets a 22-17 lead, leaving the Patriots with just under three minutes to score with a touchdown of their own to react.

Brissett, who came into this game in place of injured rookie Drake Maye, used this time perfectly. The biggest play came on third-and-10 from the Jets' 43-yard line, where Brissett hit Kayshon Boutte for a 34-yard gain that put the Patriots in the red zone.

Several attempts later, the Patriots finally managed to get into the end zone from the one-yard line on fourth-and-goal when Rhamondre Stevenson broke through the tacklers and crossed the plane.

A shell-shocked Jets team had no timeouts as Rodgers tried to get into field goal range to give the team a chance at overtime.

However, after a completion for 16 yards to Davante Adams, he failed to get off the field and time expired on the Patriots' victory.

Kicking for the Jets was once again a brutal story in this game, as Greg Zuerlein missed a field goal and also missed an extra point. Zuerlein also struggled in the Jets' loss to the Buffalo Bills two weeks ago, so it's likely GM Joe Douglas will have to think about his kicker position going forward.

Rodgers was 17 of 28 for 233 yards with two passing touchdowns and found Tyler Conklin and Xavier Gipson for the scores.

For the Patriots, Brissett was 15 of 24 for 132 yards after subbing for Maye, but it was Stevenson who reached the end zone twice, despite rushing for just 48 yards on 20 carries.

While the Patriots were able to break their own losing streak, the Jets, a team in win-now mode after trading for Adams, must go back to the drawing board and continue to look for answers to win.
