The Saints could be in sellout mode

The Saints started 2-0. With five straight losses and two games left until the trade deadline, the Saints may soon have to think about using current assets to improve the team's future.

The biggest name and most obvious trade candidate is running back Alvin Kamara. His contract includes a compensation package of $25 million for 2025. He will be released after the season without a revised contract. If that happens, the Saints will receive no compensation.

Why don't you swap him instead?

Rodney Harrison and I toured some possible destinations on Friday PFT Live. A case can be made for interest from the Chiefs, Bills, Bengals, Broncos, Cowboys and Vikings.

The question is whether a contender is interested in giving up a draft pick or two for a partial-season plus playoff rental with Kamara.

Kamara could welcome a fresh start. He left mandatory minicamp due to dissatisfaction with his contract. If he sees players like Davante Adams and Amari Cooper go from non-contenders to contenders, how could he not be interested in making the jump to a team that has a chance at winning a Super Bowl?

The Saints face the Chargers and Panthers before the window closes to trade Kamara or another veteran who is nearing the end in New Orleans. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore. Defensive end Cam Jordan. Even quarterback Derek Carr could be a candidate if a starting quarterback gets injured elsewhere in the next 18 days.
