The Seahawks defense needs to “play better” after its third straight loss.

The Seahawks allowed 14.3 points per game in their first three games – against the Denver Broncos (Bo Nix's first start), the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins in their first game without Tua Tagovailoa. Over the last three weeks, Seattle has allowed 35.7 points per game with a turnover differential of -5.

“The defense has to play better, we have to create more takeaways,” cornerback Devon Witherspoon said. “So that was a common theme.”

Safety Rayshawn Jenkins noted Thursday night that the majority of the 49ers' yards came on a few long plays — a 76-yard run by Isaac Guerendo, a 38-yard run by Jordan Mason and a 76-yard catch-and-play Run touchdown by Deebo Samuel.

“Very fixable,” Jenkins said of the defensive issues. “Everyone just has to be open. I think we have the right people.

The Seahawks have a lot to complain about during their losing streak, but so do every team – even Thursday's opponent, San Francisco, was without several key players on both sides of the ball. Injuries are something that every team struggles with during a season. Overcome the good guys. The mirages disappear into the distance.

Things don't get any easier for Seattle as they travel to Atlanta in Week 7 to face Kirk Cousins, Bijan Robinson, Drake London and others.

“Yes, of course you will be upset and worried about losing three in a row,” Macdonald said. “Naturally. But we're 3-3. We played for six weeks. So we started quickly. Obviously we haven't played good football in the last three games and here we go. The mentality always has to be, 'Hey.' Let's move forward, attack this thing, and let's fight like hell to fix it.' That's the message to the boys. There is no novel idea, but that just has to be the mentality.
