The Season 2 premiere of Lioness features an incredible shootout scene

The return of “Lioness” features perhaps the greatest shootout ever broadcast on television.

Taylor Sheridan's hit spy/military series starring Zoe Saldaña focuses on women in the world of special operations. The first two episodes of season two were released early Sunday morning and are both excellent.

Last week I wrote about my general thoughts on season two after Paramount+ gave me a first look. It's just great. There is no other way to describe it.

It's bigger, bolder, more violent, darker and the subject matter is very current. There's also a shootout scene in the season 2 premiere that will keep you talking for a long time.

Without going into spoilers, for those who haven't seen the first two episodes of season two, the plot revolves around a growing crisis with the cartels.

Specifically, a congresswoman is kidnapped and brought back across the border into Mexico. Enter Joe (Saldaña) and her black ops team.

She's tasked with traveling to Mexico on a secret mission to win back the congresswoman, and a massive bloodbath ensues.

Although I can't show the video here, the action begins around the 22-minute mark of the first season premiere. Joe, a small group of Delta Force commandos (prepare for one hell of a stunning cameo) and Kyle slip into Mexico as tourists.

With one eye in the sky tracking the vehicle containing the congresswoman, the black ops group conducts what is known as a vehicle interdiction.

Translation: They cross the vehicle with the congresswoman and flawlessly take quick headshots to take down the bad guys.

You'd think it was over now that they had the kidnapped congresswoman with them. That's where the fun begins. The Mexican military and police respond with violence and the small group of American forces race to the border.

The biggest shootout ever shown on television takes place there. I can't imagine how much money was spent on filming. It has the production value of a major war film. Joe and her team blow up vehicles and mow down the Mexican response troops.

The gunfight scene is incredible not only because of the production value, which is unprecedented for a TV show, but also because it is very tactically precise. The positioning of the American gunners in the vehicle, how they put the woman on the ground and how they turn the tables with the vehicle's movement are all so precise that the military-technical advisors at “Lioness” deserve a raise. A big one.

It will be a lot of fun to watch the second season as Joe and her team take on the cartel. The first season was great and I can already tell that the second season will be even better. Let me know what you think below [email protected].
