The trial of a man accused of hiring hitmen to kill Chris Bagley has been postponed again

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The trial of the man accused of hiring hitmen to kill Chris Bagley in 2018 is delayed again.

Andrew Shaw is charged with first-degree murder, solicitation to commit murder and conspiracy to commit a violent crime.

Shaw is accused of hiring Drew Wagner and Johnny Church to kill Chris Bagley. Bagley's body was found buried in Wagner's yard more than two months after his death.

Church, formerly known as Drew Blahnik, was found guilty of stabbing Bagley in 2021. He was sentenced to 57 years in prison.

In Church's trial, prosecutors alleged that Shaw paid Church and Wagner with drugs and money to kill Bagley for stealing from him.

Wagner testified under a plea agreement at Church's trial, admitting that he put Bagley in a headlock while fighting over robberies Bagley committed against Shaw, a major drug dealer.

Wagner was convicted for his role in Bagley's death in 2021 and is serving 47 years in prison.

Shaw has been serving an eight-year prison sentence for federal gun and drug offenses since 2020. For more than a decade, he was part of a drug operation that brought marijuana into Iowa from other states.

Shaw's trial in Bagley's death is now scheduled for June 10, as the previous date in February conflicted with other previously scheduled trials in Linn County.
