The Warriors' new addition from the Sixers, who are struggling with an unfortunate setback

Last season was a tough time for Golden State Warriors guard De'Anthony Melton. During his second season with the Philadelphia 76ers, Melton battled a back injury.

Only a few preseason games had passed with the Warriors when Melton again had back problems.

Accordingly The Athletics Anthony Slater and Melton are struggling with mid-back tension. As a result, he was ruled out of Golden State's Tuesday night game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to the report, the Warriors are taking a “cautious” approach to Melton as the regular season approaches.

Previous editions were the story of Melton's two-year run with the Sixers. After joining the 76ers via trade from the Memphis Grizzlies in 2022, Melton struggled with back problems throughout the 2022-2023 season. Luckily they weren't strict enough to remove him from the field.

Melton played 77 regular season games in his first season with the Sixers. In the playoffs he averaged 25 minutes in 11 games. Last year, Melton was primed for a key role in the Sixers' backcourt, but a lack of availability affected his role as the season progressed.

Last year he appeared in just 38 games. While Melton averaged 11 points and two steals per game during this period, matching his career highs, by the time of the playoffs Melton had not yet played a role on the team. In the first round against the New York Knicks, Melton only played one game for the Sixers.

Because he was in a contract year, Melton's injury issues impacted his value in the free agency market. Instead of securing a multi-year commitment from the Sixers or another team, Melton accepted a trial contract with the Warriors. He will reportedly make $12 million next season before becoming a free agent again.
