Today's connections are more difficult, but we are here to help! Here are our tips for getting there Connections response for today, October 7th.

If you haven't played it yet, Connections challenges you to sort a group of 16 words into four groups where all the words are well connected. This connection could come from them having a similar meaning, being part of a place name, objects found in a kitchen, or anything else!

While it sounds easy, the fraternity groups each have a different level of difficulty – with yellow being the easiest and purple being the hardest. For this reason, train Today's Connection answer could be quite difficult. You may get one group straight away, but another may remain a mystery to you. Luckily, we're here to help!

The beta version of Connections was originally developed during the New York Times Games Department's annual Game Jam and released in June 2023. Since then, it has become one of the most popular games in the NYTimes offering, surpassed only by Wordle. Although some links have been made to the BBC's Only Connect program…

Note for today's Connections answer

Instead of jumping straight to the answer, let's start with some clues for today's connection puzzle:

  • Yellow – Clever?
  • Green – noises.
  • Blue – A different kind of sound.
  • Purple – names.
  • Yahoo belongs to yellow, Beep Beep belongs to green and Hoot belongs to blue.

Remember: yellow is the easiest word group to match, followed by green and blue, with purple being the hardest word group to match.

Without further ado, here is the Connections answer for today:

  • Knucklehead – Ding dong, dodo, yahoo, yo yo

  • Famous Primates – Bubbles, George, King Kong, Koko

Today's connections were a difficult affair for me. I figured out green and yellow right away, but had to make a few guesses before I finally figured out blue and then purple.

What should be played after Connections?

The obvious answer to this question is Wordle, but if you've already solved that today, The New York Times has other games too. When it comes to word-based games, The NYTimes offers Mini Crossword, Spelling Bee, Letter Boxed and Strands, which are still in beta. If you feel like taking a word break, you can also try Tiles – a motif matching game – or Sudoku.

Outside of the NYTimes, there's Semantle, where you have to get to the secret word by guessing its meaning. Spelling doesn't count in Semantle, instead you have to pay attention to the numerical value of your guesses to find your way to the answer. However, if you prefer to stick with the Connections format, Puzzgrid is worth checking out. Here you will find hundreds of Connections style puzzles. The trick, however, is that you only have three minutes to solve them.
