“Today's Hoda Kotb breaks down in tears after Jason Segel tells her, 'I'll miss you when you're gone.'

It was a tearful morning Today The show began for Hoda Kotb when Jason Segel emotionally overwhelmed the daytime talk show host.

Segel was on the NBC show promoting the latest season of his Apple TV+ series Shrinking. As Kotb concluded the interview, Segel said that he would miss her on the show if she was gone.

“And I’ll miss you when you’re gone,” Segel told Kotb. “I just want you to know that these interviews are some of the best of my entire career, so I'm really grateful to know you.”

Kotb was surprised by Segel's kind words and held her hand to her chest with a big smile on her face.

“Wow…thank you,” Kotb said as she cried.

Kotb threw it to co-host Savannah Guthrie, who teased an interview with Eddie Redmayne but said on camera that “there was a big hug going on over there.”

The Today The show shared the hug between Kotb and Segel following the interview on Instagram.

In a memo to employees last month, Kotb announced she was leaving the company Today show in 2025.

“I've been weighing this decision for a while – am I really ready? But my 60th birthday party at the Plaza felt like a change. Like a huge, joyful YES, that’s you!” Read the memo. “I saw it all so clearly: my broadcasting career was more than meaningful, a new decade of my life lies ahead of me and now my daughters and my mother need and deserve a bigger piece of my time pie.”
