Toffoli scores a goal in the third period to give the Sharks a 4-2 victory over the Kings

Tyler Toffoli scored the go-ahead shot midway through the third period, Jake Walman had his second straight 3-pointer and the San Jose Sharks beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-2 on Tuesday night to secure their second straight win after Their first nine games were winless.

Walman scored a goal and had two assists, Fabian Zetterlund scored a key goal in the third period and William Eklund added an empty-net goal. Walman had three assists in Monday's 5-4 overtime win over Utah.

Sharks goaltender Vitek Vanecek had 26 saves.

Akil Thomas and Alex Laferriere scored for the Kings and David Rittich stopped 17 shots.

The Kings, seeking their fifth win in six games, were without star forward Kevin Fiala, who suffered a scratch after missing a meeting, a violation of team protocol.

Forward Ethan Cardwell made his NHL debut on Tuesday, logging just under 12 minutes of ice time after the Sharks recalled the 22-year-old from the San Jose Barracuda earlier in the day. San Jose previously placed forward Ty Dellandrea on the injured list in a related move.

Just under nine minutes before the end of the game, Toffoli scored his sixth goal of the season with a backhander, breaking the 2-2 tie and putting San Jose finally on top. Walman assisted.

The teams were 0-10 overall on power plays. The Kings were unable to capitalize on six man-up opportunities and the Sharks were unable to capitalize on four.

The Kings host Vegas on Wednesday night and San Jose hosts Chicago on Thursday night.
