“Survival” was the theme of ranking Big 12 teams in Week 8 of the 2024 college football season.

The week began with No. 13 BYU pulling off a last-minute comeback win over Oklahoma State, keeping its perfect season alive. The Cougars trailed most of the game, but Darius Lassiter caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Jake Retzlaff with 10 seconds left to seal the win.

Elsewhere, No. 12 Iowa State managed to overcome a 14-point deficit and turn UCF on its head. The Cyclones scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead touchdown with 30 seconds left, to defeat the Knights 38-35. No. 17 Kansas State was involved in a less exciting matchup, defeating West Virginia 45-18 on a day in which quarterback Avery Johnson rushed for three touchdowns and nearly 300 yards.

One unranked team that could make a move in the current rankings is Deion Sanders-led Colorado. The Buffaloes dominated Arizona with a 34-7 road win and are now 5-2 and 3-1 in Big 12 play. Two-way star Travis Hunter had to sit out the second half as a precaution after his shoulder injury re-aggravated.
