Tornadoes reported in northern Minnesota during severe weather

A tornado that touched down northwest of Duluth snapped trees and destroyed a shed in the small town of Cotton, Minnesota.

What do we know?

The National Weather Service received two reports of tornadoes hitting the towns of Cotton and Canyon, both of which are located close to each other, about 30 miles northwest of Duluth.

It is possible that both reports refer to the same tornado.

In Canyon, police reported the tornado crossed Highway 53 south of Cotton. In a video by Brandon Shofer (provided to FOX 9 via FOX Duluth), a funnel cloud can be seen hovering in the area of Highway 53. FOX 9 cannot confirm that this was indeed the tornado reported, as the video does not show the bottom of the cloud.

Farther north, in Cotton, Joshua Brinkman, St. Louis County's emergency management coordinator, showed photos of damage in a wooded area where trees had been knocked down. He also included a photo of a shed that had been damaged by the storms.
