Tropics: Leslie, Atlantic waves and looking into the future

While tropical activity in the Atlantic typically tends to subside by October, impactful systems can and do occur during the final two months of hurricane season. However, we are currently monitoring two tropical disturbances in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Leslie and Hurricane Milton.

Disturbance #1: Southwest Atlantic

One study area, Invest 93, also known as a non-tropical depression between the Bahamas and Bermuda, is currently producing stormy winds. Tonight or Thursday conditions will no longer be favorable for tropical development as winds will be too strong at upper elevations.

Disturbance #2: Eastern Atlantic

A tropical wave is expected to move off the coast of Africa in the next day or two. The environmental conditions are only marginally conducive to tropical development on the Cabo Verde Islands.

Hurricane Leslie

Leslie continues to move northwest across the Central Atlantic with no coastal warnings or threats to landfall expected.Leslie has begun moving northwest as a hurricane.

The Climate Prediction Center has released its 2- and 3-week tropical forecasts for the Atlantic and Pacific, and there is currently low confidence across all tropical formations. Hurricane season officially ends on Saturday, November 30th, meaning there are only 53 days until hurricane season ends.
