Trump will speak at the Economic Club of Chicago next week

CHICAGO — Just weeks before Election Day, former President Donald Trump will return to Chicago to speak with the Economic Club of Chicago and Bloomberg News.

While Trump is not expected to win the Illinois vote in November, the Oct. 15 visit comes as the Republican Party's presidential candidate plans to speak to executives and members of the business community. Trump also spoke to members of the Economic Club of New York last month and will speak to the Detroit Economic Club on Thursday.

The visit marks Trump's first return to Chicago since a heated interview with members of the National Association of Black Journalists in July. After that interview, Trump came under fire for questioning Vice President Kamala Harris' racial identity, falsely claiming that she “accidentally turned black.” Trump's visit in July also sparked protests downtown.

Although attendance at next week's event will be limited to members of the Economic Club of Chicago, their guests and some members of the press, the interview will be available to stream live on Bloomberg News' platforms and on the economic club's YouTube page, according to a media release Monday .

The interview will be moderated by Bloomberg News Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait. The location of the conversation was not disclosed as of Monday afternoon.
