Two Texas elementary school teachers are accused of giving students sleeping pills

Two shady elementary school teachers were kicked out of their Texas classroom after they allegedly placed special stickers containing melatonin on their students to silence them.

Teachers at Northgate Crossing Elementary School are under police investigation after parents reported they allegedly gave their little ones a “sleep sticker” during school hours that later affected their mood at home, local outlets reported.

Lisa Luviano was alarmed when her 4-year-old child came home from school on Sept. 24 and showed her a blue sticker with a moon and stars that her teacher had given her to “nap.”

The sleep patch contains melatonin and other “naturally occurring ingredients.”

“She said, 'It's a sleep sticker,'” Luviano told KTRK.

Luviano reported the sticker to school administrators after learning online that the adhesive was called “Sleep ZPatch” – a sleep aid containing melatonin and other “naturally occurring ingredients” designed for people over the age of 18.

“We took the evidence there and filed a report,” Luviano said, adding that she wanted to press criminal charges.

When the school district took no action after two weeks and failed to notify other parents, Luviano took matters into her own hands and sent out a mass text message advising parents to talk to their children about the patch, the outlet reported .

Other parents expressed similar concerns after confronting their children, including Najala Abdullah, who told KHOU that her son had been acting differently since the start of the school year – crying more than usual and not eating or sleeping.

“They give them sleeping pills to keep them calm,” Abdullah said.

Abdullah said she and other parents reported the matter to the Spring Independent School District and Child Protective Services. Several parents also took their children to the hospital for checkups, the outlets reported.

It wasn't until Tuesday that the school officially announced that the two unidentified teachers would be placed on administrative leave pending a police investigation, media reported.

The school district announced that the teachers were under police investigation.

“Upon learning of the allegation, the teachers in this classroom were immediately terminated and placed on administrative leave,” the district said in a statement to KHOU, adding that two paraprofessionals were also placed on administrative leave as a “precautionary measure.”

“The safety of our students is our top priority and we take any allegations of misconduct seriously. We ask our community to be patient as SISD police conduct their investigation.”

The district also found that teachers violated policy by providing students with any type of medication unless otherwise authorized.
