Bangladesh's Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected to bat first, but the decision backfired as South Africa's pacers and spinners thrived in favorable conditions, bowling out Bangladesh for just 106. Kagiso Rabada, Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj took three wickets each.

Bangladesh's spinners hit back, with Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan sharing seven wickets between them. But a resilient century from Kyle Verreynne, supported by Mulder (54) and Dane Piedt (32), helped South Africa to a commanding lead of 202 runs.

In the third innings, the South African bowlers, led by Rabada, dominated again and reduced Bangladesh to 112/6. Mehidy Hasan (97) put up strong resistance and formed crucial partnerships with the lower order to take the total to 307. Rabada finished the game with an impressive 6/46, his best performance in Asia.

Chasing 106, South Africa had little trouble, with Tony de Zorzi (41) and Tristan Stubbs (30*) leading them to a seven-wicket win.

The second Test between Bangladesh and South Africa will be played in Chattogram from October 29.
