Utah CEO dies in 200-foot fall in Zion National Park

ZION NATIONAL PARK, Utah (ABC4) – The CEO of a Lindon, Utah-based software company died the following weekend a tragic 200-foot fall in Zion National Park.

Justin Bingham, 40, was canyoneering near the exit of Heaps Canyon on Saturday, October 5, and fell. The National Park Service said Bingham was with three other people and was allowed to pass through Heaps Canyon when the incident occurred.

After the report of the fall was received around 6 p.m., the Zion National Park Technical Search and Rescue Team and the Washington County Sheriff's Office arrived and provided emergency medical care while waiting for Life Flight. The National Park Service said Bingham was pronounced dead before he could be taken to the hospital.

The other three canyoners were safely rescued from the company at 2 p.m. the next day.

Bingham was CEO of Opiniion, a Lindon-based software company focused on property management solutions. The company said Bingham died exploring nature, which they said was one of his greatest passions.

“Justin was a visionary who believed in the power of real connections, both with our customers and within our teams,” the company said in a statement. “His commitment to building meaningful relationships left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Justin’s adventurous spirit and dedication to living life to the fullest will be sorely missed.”

Devin Shurtleff, co-founder and chief operating officer of Opiniion, called Bingham an “eternal optimist.”

“'Everything will always work out.' He told me so many times, but he was right, and he was right most of the time,” Shurtleff said. “Justin wasn’t just a leader here at Opiniion – he was a mentor, a father and a friend to many of us. He believed that the relationships we build make this work meaningful, and he truly lived that every day.”
