Vasan Bala, the director of Jigra, had defended the Alia Bhatt starrer's disappointing performance at the box office.

Filmmaker Vasan Bala's X account (formerly Twitter) has been deactivated days after he was targeted by trolls for defending the box office failure of his recent release Jigra. The Alia Bhatt starrer has performed worse at the box office, but Vasan had said in an interview that he doesn't consider the box office as a factor in its success. Vasan Bala has deleted his Twitter account

On Sunday, Vasan Bala's Twitter account, which was active until the day before, was deleted. All replies to his previous tweets turned out to be empty fields. The message simply read: “This post is from an account that no longer exists.” His account's landing page is also now blank.

What Twitter users said

Twitter users speculated that the deletion probably came after the filmmaker received hate for defending Jigra. Vasan had defended the film in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India and shared it on X. However, replies to this tweet called the filmmaker “arrogant” for not accepting the failure of the film.

The tide has changed after the filmmaker deleted his account. Many are rushing to his defense, saying he shouldn't be solely blamed for the film's failure. After screenshots of his “absent” profile were shared on Reddit, one user commented, “They promoted it as an Alia Bhatt aka Lady Bachchan film but just wanted him to take responsibility for its failure.” Some questioned Karan Johar and said that while promoting the film, the stars – Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina – were at the forefront, along with Karan, the producer. But after the film underperformed, Vasan was the only one to give interviews.

Jigra cash performance

Jigra, the story of a sister who tries to free her brother from a foreign prison, received mixed to positive reviews upon its release last weekend. However, it did not meet expectations in terms of box office results. Manufactured with a stated budget of Jigra only earned 80 crore 40 crore so far and will almost certainly not break even.
