Superstar Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan has finally hit the theaters with much anticipation. Check out the review to see if this action-packed crime drama lives up to expectations.

Story:

Athiyan (Rajinikanth) is an encounter specialist who believes in delivering justice even if it means crossing moral boundaries. His life takes a turbulent turn when he meets Sharanya (Dushara Vijayan), a courageous school teacher who takes a strong stand against injustice. Tragically, in a shocking turn of events, she is murdered, plunging Athiyan into a maze of questions: Who killed her? How did he end up inadvertently involved in a case that resulted in the death of an innocent man? And what will he do to expose the real culprit? How does Nataraj (Rana Daggubati) relate to the story? These questions are answered in the film.

Pros:

Rajinikanth's portrayal of the formidable encounter specialist is mesmerizing and showcases his trademark style and charisma. The film shines with electrifying crowd moments and thrilling action sequences.

The contrasting motivations of Amitabh Bachchan's character – who seeks quick justice for wrongdoers – and Rajinikanth's character, who believes in bending the rules, are skillfully executed. Amitabh delves deeply into his role and adds weight to the narrative.

The chemistry between Rajinikanth and Rana Daggubati is compelling and is highlighted by captivating dialogues that enrich their scenes. Rana delivers a strong performance, especially as his character evolves in the second half.

The role of Fahadh Faasil adds more layers to the story. Supporting performances from Manju Warrier and Ritika Singh as well as actors like Abhirami, Dushara Vijayan, Rohini and Rao Ramesh add significantly to the depth of the film.

The serious twist brought by the murder effectively defines the first half while Anirudh's background music enhances the cinematic experience. Director TJ Gnanavel skillfully strikes the balance between action and emotional storytelling.

Minuses:

Despite its decent premise and character development, the film fails to deliver some compelling elements that could further enhance the experience. The serious tone sometimes overshadows the emotional depth and makes parts of the narrative drag.

Additionally, certain scenes in the second half could benefit from streamlining to improve pacing. A more logical and robust conflict for Rana's character could have increased the emotional impact of the film.

While the main characters are compelling, the investigation scenes occasionally drag and the second half does not maintain the intensity of the first half, which detracts from the overall impact.

Technical aspects:

Anirudh Ravichander's music stands out, especially his background music during the action sequences, which adds to the tension of the film. The editing is competent, although a tighter second half would have improved the flow of the film. SR Kathir's cinematography beautifully captures the essence of the action. Producer A. Subaskaran ensures high production values, adding to the overall appeal of the film.

Verdict:

Overall, Vettaiyan is a crime action drama that works to some extent. It showcases Rajinikanth's magnetic presence and outstanding acting complemented by powerful emotional moments and thrilling action. On the other hand, some scenes feel drawn out and the second half lacks the same urgency as the first. The film is ultimately aimed at fans of the superstar and lovers of thrilling action thrillers. Keep your expectations in check if you want to see it.
