Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2024: How to watch and more

Grab your angel wings because the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is making a comeback.

The news was announced on the lingerie and clothing brand's official Instagram page in May.

“We have read the comments and listened to you. The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is ✨ BACK ✨ and will reflect who we are today and everything you know and love – glamour, runway, wings, musical entertainment and more,” the caption read. “Stay tuned…it’s only going to get more iconic from here on out.”

From 1995 to 2018, the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show was an annual event promoting the company that soon became a pop culture moment. Models included Gisele Bündchen, Karlie Kloss And Naomi Campbell They walked the runway in lingerie, often with elaborate angel wings in tow. Over the years musicians have included Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlakethe Spice Girls, Ariana Grande And Justin Bieber appeared at the top-class fashion shows.

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show hit its stride in the early 2000s, with over 12 million people tuning in in 2001. The event's popularity continued for over a decade until she was named CFO of L Brands Stuart Burgdörfer announced the show's cancellation in November 2019, citing a decline in viewership.

Victoria's Secret has put a lot of thought into its rebranding. After announcing the return of the label's fashion show, the retailer revealed that the “reimagined” presentation will be a full-length film. Instead of models strolling down the catwalk, the lingerie company takes viewers on a journey around the world to follow one (…).

Why was the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show canceled in the first place?

Burgdoerfer, CFO of Victoria's Secret parent company L Brands, confirmed the show's cancellation during an earnings call in November 2019.

“We believe it is important to continue to develop Victoria's Secret's marketing,” he said at the time.

The decision came after the show attracted just 3 million viewers in 2018, compared to 10 million in 2010, the worst ratings in the event's history. The brand was also embroiled in controversy at the time of cancellation afterwards Ed Razekthen Chief Marketing Officer of L Brands, made controversial statements during an interview in November 2018 fashion.

Razek referred to trans women with the term “transsexual,” which is widely viewed as outdated and offensive, and said they should not be included “because the show is a fantasy.” He also said that in 2000 the brand “tried to do a television special for plus-size models” but “nobody was interested in it (and they still aren't”).

Razek, who left the company in August 2019, apologized for his “insensitive” comments in a statement shared on Twitter Xthen called up Twitter.

“To be clear, we would definitely cast a transgender model on the show. We've had transgender models come to castings… and like many others, they didn't make it,” he wrote. “But it was never about gender. I admire and respect their journey to become who they truly are.”

The Razek controversy also pointed to a larger criticism of the Victoria's Secret brand: that it is outdated and promotes harmful and archaic ideas about women's bodies, race and gender. Subsequent advertising campaigns from the brand addressed these concerns with more inclusive messaging and models.

The brand's reputation also suffered at the hands of the CEO of L Brands Les WexnerConnection to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein was Wexner's financial advisor from 1987 to 2007. During this time, Epstein posed as a Victoria's Secret recruiter to gain access to young models.

“The issue of Epstein alleging a connection to Victoria's Secret was raised at one point with Mr. Wexner,” Wexner's attorney said in a statement to the 2022 Hulu docuseries Victoria's Secret: Angels and Demons. “He confronted Epstein and made it clear that it was a violation of company policy for him to suggest that he was in any way associated with Victoria's Secret and that Epstein was prohibited from ever doing so again. Epstein denied doing this.”

Wexner later moved from CEO to chairman emeritus of the parent company, now called Bath & Body Works, Inc.

When was the last Victoria's Secret Fashion Show?

The last edition of the show took place in November 2018 at New York's Pier 94. The event featured musical performances by Shawn Mendes, Rita OraThe chain smokers, Halsey And Kelsea Ballerini and models including Martha Hunt, Stella Maxwell, Adriana Lima And Behati Prinsloo walked down the catwalk.
