Atlanta radio icon Wanda Smith died at the age of 58, just one day after celebrating her birthday.

While the exact cause of death was not revealed, her former broadcaster V-103 confirmed the heartbreaking news last weekend. Smith was a beloved figure in the community, known for her vibrant personality and decades of dedication to the Atlanta airwaves.

“Our hearts weigh heavier today as we mourn the loss of our beloved Wanda Smith, someone who always made us smile and who was a huge part of V-103 for years. We extend our deepest prayers and condolences to her family,” said V-103 SVP & Market Manager Rick Caffey said in an Instagram post. “In her role at V-103, which dates back to 1997, Wanda Smith has brought so much joy and care to the Atlanta community. Wanda's impact touched lives that not only made us laugh… She often championed behind-the-scenes efforts to change the lives of those without laughter. Rest in peace, Wanda, as you take your place among the stars. We will miss you.”

Smith, a Miami native, became a popular figure in Atlanta through her role as co-host of “Frank and Wanda in the Morning” on V-103, where she worked from 1998 to 2012. Later she teamed up with Ryan Cameron from 2014 to early 2018 before reunification with Frank Skis for another run at V-103. Beyond radio, Smith made a name for himself in comedy, earning a living as a writer for Def Comedy Jam. She also appeared in several films including Madea goes to prison, Madea's witness protection, And The drone that saved Christmas.
