Oct. 28 (UPI) — Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has sprained his left ankle and could miss time, head coach Steve Kerr told reporters.

Kerr spoke about the injury after a 112-104 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday in San Francisco. Curry scored a total of 18 points, six assists and four rebounds in 26:42 minutes.

“We have a strong team,” Kerr said in his postgame press conference. “We talked about it. We have a lot of people who can play. We will be ready.”

Curry, who underwent an MRI on Sunday night, twisted his ankle in the third quarter. He was moving around his teammates when he planted his foot and his ankle turned awkwardly. He then limped to the bench.

Curry returned to the field in the fourth quarter but aggravated the injury while running around a screen and left the game for the final time with about eight minutes remaining.

Kerr said he didn't know who the Warriors would turn to if Curry had to sit out. He named guard Andrew Wiggins as a player who could get more touches with Curry out. Wiggins scored 29 points in Sunday's loss.

The Warriors defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 140-104 in their season opener on Wednesday in Portland, Oregon. In their next game on Friday in Salt Lake City, they defeated the Utah Jazz 127-86.

Curry averaged 18.3 points, 6.7 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game in his first three appearances this season.

The Warriors (2-1) host the New Orleans Pelicans (2-1) in San Francisco on Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. EDT.
