Wayne Rooney praised his leadership as Plymouth climbed the Championship table under the Man Utd legend

PLYMOUTH ARGYLE star Ibrahim Cissoko has praised coach Wayne Rooney after scoring twice against Luton.

Argyle beat the recently relegated club 3-1 last night to climb to 14th in the Championship table.

Cissoko started the game on the bench but came on after 58 minutes and secured the three points with two brilliant finishes.

It was the 21-year-old winger's third goal in seven league games this season.

And Cissoko praised Rooney for his good start to the season, telling Sky Sports: “For me he is the perfect coach because he gives me the freedom to play.”

And the Manchester United legend returned the compliment, saying: “He's a fantastic player and he showed his ability when he came on as a substitute tonight.”

“It wasn't so easy to tell him he wasn't playing.

“But I felt late in the game and said to him yesterday, 'Just trust me, you'll come and win us the game'.”

“As a manager, it’s always great when that happens and it turns out to be true.”

On his side's performance so far this season, Rooney added: “We were underestimated at the start of the season, before we kicked a ball, and then especially after the first game.”

“But I think we showed real character, we showed what kind of team we want to be, we move the ball forward and create chances.”

“It’s a big win for us against a good Luton team. It’s a big win for a lot of our young players.”

“I was happy for the boys this evening, I was happy for the fans – great atmosphere again, so a great start to the weekend.”

Perhaps Rooney will celebrate with another midweek trip to the pub where he was spotted singing karaoke last month.
