Week 7 Preview, Score Predictions

For the first time since Super Bowl LVIII, the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will face off on the big stage. This weekend's match is one of the most important games on Sunday and certainly lives up to the hype.

Both clubs' seasons started differently. Andy Reid's team was on a five-game winning streak entering the bye week, while Kyle Shanahan and company had an even .500 winning streak through six games. Despite this 3-3 record, the 49ers expect to be in the conversation for the rest of the season. A win is desperately needed, although the Chiefs are proving to be one of the NFL's toughest outings yet.

How will the game develop? The Kansas City Chiefs via SI Crew makes its predictions for Week 7 of the 2024-25 campaign.

Joshua Brisco: This may be the least confident I've had of an imminent Chiefs win this season, but while KC has plenty of legitimate issues to contend with, the results of past Chiefs-49ers meetings aren't just a coincidence. Steve Spagnuolo has continually outpaced Kyle Shanahan's offense, and while things will be more difficult without Mike Danna on defense, I'm betting that the Chiefs' defense continues to prove its legitimacy despite a very solid start to the year with quarterback Brock Purdy. I think the Chiefs narrowly win a low scoring game.

Prediction: Chiefs 20, 49ers 17

Jordan Foote: This truly looks to be the Chiefs' toughest game yet, despite the post-bye boost that Andy Reid-led teams have traditionally had. In my Week 7 preview, I highlighted that the 49ers' offense is still one of the hardest units to stop despite Christian McCaffrey not being on the field. Defending Nick Sorensen is a different story, but this will be a big, crucial effort. Brock Purdy is a very good quarterback and should have success against a strong Kansas City defense, but in the end I'm on the side of the Chiefs to better maximize their chances. The wide receiver group is the collective to watch in this case.

Prediction: Chiefs 27, 49ers 23

Zack Eisen: It's a Super Bowl rematch, but I'm keeping a close eye on one player who didn't play in that game: Xavier Worthy. The Chiefs coaching staff had two weeks to assess the current situation at the wide receiver position. How do they incorporate Worthy if he becomes the WR1 in this offense? Patrick Mahomes has talked about how the committee will proceed and how the leading receiver will be different each week. However, it would be best if the first-round pick could move up. We know he is fast and can stretch the field. Now let's look at the route running skills in other areas of the field that he showed in college.

Prediction: Chiefs 24, 49ers 16

Mark Van Sickle: The Chiefs always seem to get the best out of the 49ers when they play in recent years. They tend to dig themselves into an early hole just to find a way out. With Mahomes as their starter, they have never lost to the Niners. Combined with Andy Reid's bye, the Chiefs have a good chance of another win. The defense remains an underrated part of this team, despite being quite dominant over the last season and a half. Another solid performance from that side of the ball, coupled with some Mahomes magic, and the Chiefs will walk away with the win.

Prediction: Chiefs 23, 49ers 20
