Western Minnesota Fire Weather Watch; Roller coaster temperatures over the next few days

Wednesday will be warm and windy with critical fire weather conditions again. Temperatures will drop on Thursday and Friday before warming up again on Saturday.

Warm, windy Wednesday ahead of another cool front

After a short cool day that was finally somewhat normal again, we have summer temperatures again on Wednesday afternoon. Highs will be around 80 degrees in southern Minnesota, while it will be cooler in the north. These values ​​are again almost 15 degrees above normal.

By Wednesday afternoon it will be windy again with southerly winds of 10 to 20 mph and critically low relative humidity levels of 10 to 25 percent. Critical fire weather conditions are expected again in the afternoon with dry, windy and warm conditions.

A fire weather warning is in effect for much of western Minnesota from midday through evening Wednesday.

Another cool front will move through late Wednesday, sending temperatures back into the 60s to lower 70s for Thursday and Friday.

Cool Thursday sets us up for a chilly Thursday evening. For many it could be the coolest night in five months. Northern Minnesota may experience frost.

Temperatures will warm again Saturday, possibly reaching near 80 degrees in southern Minnesota. It could also be another critical fire weather day with windy and dry conditions.

Another cool front moves in late Saturday, potentially triggering the only spotty chance of rain over the next seven days. Due to the lack of moisture and timing of the front, the best chances appear to be in far northeastern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

However, the rainfall will be very modest. Most models drop little rain, but the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts' model is the most aggressive, dropping a quarter to half an inch of precipitation in some lucky spots in northeastern Minnesota.

Temperatures will be cooler again Sunday and Monday, with highs in the 50s and 60s.
