Western Washington University announces two unrelated student deaths on campus

BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Two student deaths have been reported at Western Washington University (WWU) within the last 24 hours.

In a letter to students, WWU President Sabah Randhawa said that on the night of October 9, a student was killed in an apparent fall from the Nash Hall dormitory.

Law enforcement has determined that the death was not the result of a crime and that there is no threat to the community.

“It breaks my heart to learn that we have lost one of our students. On behalf of the WWU community, our thoughts are with the students' families, friends and classmates. We understand that this message is difficult to understand, and we encourage anyone who needs support to utilize the resources provided by the university,” President Sabah Randhawa said in WWU’s press release.

In an email from President Randhawa at 1:00 p.m. on October 10, the university announced a second death at Alma Clark Glass Hall. There is currently no suspected connection between the two deaths. Information about how the second death occurred has not been released.

The university refers students directly to the WWU Advisory and Wellness Center. Additionally, student affairs professionals are available to provide support to those who need it. The university encourages students and community members who are experiencing hardship to reach out.
