WFAN caller warns host about Jeff McNeil's alleged attack on the Yellow Vests

There have been a lot of crazy headlines about the New York Mets in 2024, but this one might be the best.

Just recently, a WFAN knife-sharpening caller called the station to warn Chris McMonigle about Jeff McNeil, who was allegedly attacked by Yellow Jackets. Yes, that actually happened, and no, we're not burying the story here.

Well, if we're to take the “Brandon in West Virginia” caller at his word here, he was sharpening knives after 1 a.m. to make more money for tickets to Game 3 of the National League Division Series. This part seems a little too far-fetched to make up, but it looks like he embellished a bit when it came to New York's injured All-Star second baseman.

McNeil was not with the team in Milwaukee and Philadelphia as he and his wife Tatiana had given birth to their second child, Serena Bee McNeil, just two days earlier. McNeil is currently sidelined with a broken right wrist that will cost him four to six weeks, but he is aiming to return to the roster if New York can make it to the NLCS.

So we're not entirely sure when McNeil, a California native, would have had time between rehabilitating his injured wrist and caring for his pregnant wife to be attacked by Yellow Jackets on a West Virginia golf course. But then again, nothing about “Brandon” and his call during McMonigle’s hour(s) really made any sense.

“Hey Chris, I’m sorry bro,” Brandon said. “I'm sharpening some knives for a neighbor. I’m trying to get some more money together so I can make it to Game 3, you know?”

Actually not.

“This whole McNeil thing, you see him talking about coming back; I don’t know anything about that,” he continued. “So he’s a great golfer. We have some beautiful golf courses here in Wheeling, West Virginia. My brother-in-law is a scratch golfer, my nephew has scholarships – and I also take care of the course maintenance. I don’t know if you follow McNeil’s Twitter or if you know he was attacked by some Yellow Vests today.”

McNeil has not tweeted since 2022.

“You know from experience that sometimes it takes a few days to recover. So I don’t think he’ll be ready to play right away,” Brandon said.

At this point, McMonigle had to get Brandon off the line, thanked him for his call, but couldn't resist a parting shot.

“I wouldn't blame anyone trying to make a little extra money, but I find it hard to believe…If you're standing in your garage at 1 a.m. sharpening knives, your intentions are not good,” McMonigle said. “Or something's going on… I didn't see that (McNeil had a child). I'm sure he wasn't attacked by the yellow vests. Maybe it was him; I have no idea. I don't think he will come back.

“And I'll tell you this: I think it would be a mistake if they brought him back… I doubt, first of all, that he plays golf with a broken wrist. And yes, the baby too. Just the idea that he had – I don't know, did it come from a movie? Did Caddyshack have a bee scene? I’m trying to imagine there’s somewhere this guy is coming from with this.”

If you need to sharpen knives after midnight, you may want to call a number other than WFAN.
