What Elder Christofferson Said at October 2024 General Conference – Church News

Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles spoke about the need to lay aside “the weapons of rebellion” and “yield to the temptations of the Spirit” during general conference on Saturday afternoon in October 2024. The following is a summary of what he said.

Summary of Elder Christofferson's talk

After being taught by the sons of Mosiah, the converted Lamanites laid down their weapons of rebellion (see Alma 23:7).

The individual might ask himself what he can do to follow this pattern—to become so converted to Christ that the stain of sin and the desire for sin disappear from his heart.

While willful rebellion is possible, the more insidious form of rebellion against God is passive—disobeying His will.

“Many who would never consider active rebellion might still defy the will and Word of God by pursuing their own path without regard to divine guidance.”

The weapons that the Lamanite converts buried were evil because of the way they used them. “In the same way, there are things in our lives that may be neutral or even inherently good, but when used incorrectly, they become weapons of rebellion.”

Burying the weapons of rebellion means giving in to the temptation of the Holy Spirit, putting the first commandment first, and letting God prevail.

“When our love for God and our determination to serve Him with all our strength, mind and strength become the test by which we judge all things and make all our decisions, we have buried our weapons of rebellion.”

Notable quotes

“When it comes to salvation and eternal life, our theme song should be, 'I did it God's way,' because there really is no other way.”

“Burying our weapons of rebellion leads to a unique joy.”

“May we bury every element of rebellion against God in our lives – deep, deep – and replace it with a willing heart and mind.”
