What you should know (September 2024 update)

In 2020, South Park Co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone ranked their 15 favorite episodes of the Comedy Central animated series. Their selection included just one episode between Seasons 1 and 7 (Trolling “Terrance and Phillip in Not Without My Anus” from Season 2), three classic episodes from Season 8 (“Good Times with Weapons,” “AWESOM-O,” and “Woodland “) Critter Christmas”) and a single episode after Season 13 (the meaningful “You're Getting Old” from Season 15).

Could there be an instant classic episode in Season 27 that Trey and Matt would put on an updated list? We won't know for a while, but hey, crazier things have happened South Park lasts 27 seasons.

Plot

It's a fool's errand to predict what South Park will be addressed in Season 27, considering the current nature of the show. But it seems like Trey and Matt get burned out when they get involved in politics (can you blame them?).

“It's just a lot more fun to be like Cartman dressing up like a robot,” Stone said in an interview with Vanity Fair. He also talked about the state of comedy in 2024. “The stuff I'm jealous of is TikTok – like, 'That's a great joke, it looks like they had fun doing it,' and then it goes continue,” the voice of Kyle, Kenny, Butters, Tweek, Craig, Jimbo, Gerald, Big Gay Al, etc. said. “We both just have infinite respect for that.” However, Stone still prefers “to write a story and create a framework so that you can do more complicated things.”

If this “complicated stuff” involves a Mexican restaurant, all the better.

Of course there's Matt Stone and Trey Parker like almost everyone else, but there are a few other voice actors including Mona Marshall, April Stewart and Kimberly Brooks as the majority of the female characters and Adrien Beard as the token.

Release date

With the exception of the Paramount+ special “The End of Obesity” South Park takes 2024 off. Why? Canada's fault, I think, is the election.

“We tried South Park “We've had four or five presidential elections and it's so hard – it's such a headache and it seems like it's outsized,” Stone explained recently. “Of course it's damn important, but it kind of takes over everything and we just have less fun.” Parker added: “I don't know what else we could say about Trump.”

Expect Season 27 to premiere in 2025.
