Brooks filed a separate lawsuit in September accusing the woman of extortion and defamation. He claims the woman tried to extort money from him before making the allegations public and that the sexual assault allegations were fabricated.

The woman's attorney said the lawsuit was filed Thursday, but a California Superior Court clerk for Los Angeles County said the lawsuit was not yet in court records as of Thursday. It often takes a few days for a lawsuit to appear.

In the lawsuit, the woman is seeking a jury trial, monetary and punitive damages and attorney's fees.

On Thursday evening, Brooks responded to the allegations in a statement to ABC News.

“For the past two months, I have been endlessly plagued with threats, lies and tragic stories about what my future would be if I did not write a multi-million dollar check,” he wrote.

“It was like a loaded gun was being waved in my face. Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, this means that I am admitting to behavior that I am incapable of – ugly acts that are not humane anyone should ever do to another.

“We filed a lawsuit against this individual almost a month ago to speak out against extortion and defamation of reputation,” he continued. “We submitted it anonymously in the interest of the families of both sides.”

The statement ended with the words: “Tonight I want to play music. I would like to continue our good deeds in the future. It breaks my heart that these wonderful things are now being called into question. I trust the system, I'm not afraid of the truth, and I'm not the man they portrayed me as.

The woman's lawyers see Brooks' lawsuit against her client as an attempt to silence her.
