“Not only was I starting a new chapter in my career with the Dodgers, but I was also starting a new life with someone from my home country of Japan who is very special to me, and I wanted everyone to know that I am now married.” Ohtani said on Instagram before the season.

Who is Shohei Ohtani's wife?

Mamiko Tanaka is a 27-year-old former basketball player who has spent her entire career in Japan.

Standing 5-11, Tanaka played both power forward and center in her career before retiring.

Mamiko Tanaka's basketball career

Tanaka played college basketball at Waseda University in Tokyo and then played for Fujitsu Red Wave in the Women's Japan Basketball League for four seasons. During that time, the Red Wave made the playoffs every season, with their best result being a loss in the 2022 finals.

After the 2022-23 season, Tanaka retired from professional basketball.
