Who is the new No. 1 team in the AP poll?

After an exciting eighth week of the 2024 college football season, the Associated Press released its new AP Top 25 on Sunday.

After previous No. 1 Texas was defeated by Georgia, the Longhorns fell to fifth in the rankings. The Bulldogs are now in second place.

But there's a new team at the top of the poll. It's the Oregon Ducks, who freshly won 35-0 against Purdue on Friday evening. The Ducks are undefeated and coming off an excellent season in their first year in the Big Ten.

Of course, Oregon is supported by Dillon Gabriel, who previously played at UCF (2019-2021) and Oklahoma (2022-2023), and the team is booming under third-year head coach Dan Lanning.

After a second straight embarrassing loss, the Oklahoma Sooners did not receive a single vote for entry into the Top 25. OU lost to South Carolina by a final score of 35-9.

A total of nine SEC teams make up the AP Top 25, with four of those teams (Ole Miss, Missouri, Alabama and LSU) making up the remainder of Oklahoma's conference schedule.

The Sooners will do their best to keep up with the Rebels on the road next week. They will play just their second true away game of the season on Saturday in Oxford, Mississippi.
