Wild Bavaria spectacle! Late shock for headless Munich residents

Wild exchange of blows and a late shock for FC Bayern! The record champions gave up a victory in a spectacular top game against their pursuers Eintracht Frankfurt. After a late goal from Omar Marmoush, the Munich team had to be content with a 3:3 (2:2).

Coach Vincent Kompany's team remained winless for the third competitive game in a row. Once again, Bayern's high-risk football was their downfall – in the end even coupled with an unusual naivety.

But Eintracht, who had no chance to date, took advantage of their first counterattack opportunity through Omar Marmoush (22'). And after a bad pass from Thomas Müller, who replaced the injured Jamal Musiala, the Frankfurt team turned the game in their favor through Hugo Ekitiké (35th).

Bayern's enormous susceptibility to counterattacks due to their high pressing was punished again.

But the Munich team had a suitable answer ready: with Dayot Upamecano's first goal of the season (38th), FCB managed to equalize before the break.

After the break, Michael Olise (53') scored to give Bayern the lead again. Late on, Eintracht pushed for an equalizer again. Eric Dina Ebimbe narrowly missed a cross from Rasmus Kristensen (83').

“We had a plan because they are always very high,” explained Marmoush, “and we did it very well, were a team offensively and defensively. We celebrate that.”

Bayern remain top of the league with 14 points, ahead of RB Leipzig and Eintracht, who are tied on points (13). Consistency is still missing after the draw against double winners Bayer Leverkusen (1:1) and the defeat against Aston Villa (0:1) in the Champions League during the week.

Kompany made two changes compared to the defeat in Birmingham, his first as Bayern coach. Experienced Thomas Müller replaced Kingsley Coman in the starting line-up, Raphael Guerreiro replaced Konrad Laimer at the back right. Dribbling artist Jamal Musiala complained of back problems.

“It’s a normal game for us, we want to get our points and continue in the Bundesliga,” Kompany said before the duel. The Belgian had also warned about the SGE as a “strong counter-attacking team” with “a lot of talent” – and he was right. No doubt he had put aside one of his risky ways of playing.
