Yankees icon calls young Phillies star a 'cheap date' after walking in

Phillies second baseman Bryson Stott had a 27th birthday he'll never forget on Sunday, playing a key role in the NLDS Game 2 comeback and then getting to talk to some of his favorite childhood players.

Stott belted a two-run triple off New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz in the eighth inning to give Philadelphia a 5-4 lead for a 7-6 victory. That performance against one of the game's best closers was the reason he went on the FOX Sports post-game show after the win.

And the broadcast group of Red Sox legend David Ortiz and Yankees legends Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez had some fun with Stott – even at his expense when he admitted what he wanted for his birthday.

This is how it ended at the end of her almost four-minute interview:

Ortiz: “Today is your birthday. (Derek) Jeter has a lot of money. “What do you want him to give you?” while the rest of the group laughed.

Stott: “I actually told K-Long (hitting coach Kevin Long) that you guys had to sign me a ball because you guys were my favorite players as a kid.”

Ortiz: “That’s it, man? What a cheap birthday present, man,” as the former MLB stars laughed even more.

Stott: “That’s all I need. I'm a simple guy.

Rodriguez: “Bryson, you’re a cheap date. You got this, my friend.”

Stott, who hit .245 with a .671 OPS this season, is 2 of 7 in the series.
